Barry Island is a well known and busy summer holiday resort with all the usual seaside town amenities, including fair grounds, amusements and plenty of accomodation. The beach is a sandy bay positioned between two limestone headlands. The soft sand provides plenty of space for sunbathing or sandcastle building with plenty of rock pools to discover.
The largest holiday camp is at the east end of the beach, and during summer weekends the beach itself can become crowded with holiday-makers. It can be a good location in light SW winds for improver windsurfers to perfect those tacks and flare gybes. However, as with the rest of the beaches in this area, tidal ranges are huge and strong currents do develop. Parking can be found along the coast road, but it can be difficult at peak times.
